In this exciting and varied role, you will be working together with the Head of Technical Research & Development on a comprehensive software solution that facilitates the optimisation and increase of capacity in the railway system through various components (approx. 85% of your working time). Based on a GIS, route-relevant information is correctly and precisely located geographically, thus forming the basis for the implementation of further technologies. In addition to the aforementioned main activity, software-technical support and assistance in prototype construction, as well as the contribution of in-depth mathematical skills, are expected (approx. 15%).  

• Development, conceptual design and programming of a software which allows optimisation of the entire railway operation
• Development of prototypes and implementation of field tests
• Support in all matters relating to IT, software creation and the mathematically exact solution of engineering issues
• Support of the technology department in all software-related issues
• Collaboration and co-creation of patents and patent applications, as well as the necessary research and investigation activities
• Monitoring of technologies currently on the market, reporting and derivation of future development fields

• Completed higher education studies (culminating in a “Diplom” or similar, university or university of applied sciences [FH]) with a focus on software development, computer science, software engineering, geo-informatics or comparable 
• Basic knowledge in the field of railway infrastructure, as well as railway operations, is an advantage 
• Interest in contributing to the process of solving complex technical issues 
• Support and implementation of customer projects, pilot projects or demonstrations in an international context 
• Excellent correspondence skills in German and English 
• Independent and accurate way of working, as well as interest in a broad range of tasks  
• Willingness to undergo ongoing training in our fields of activity

• After an extensive introductory phase to the focal points and tasks, you will be the first point of contact for the Head of Research and Development for all software-related questions, and will provide advice and support with your IT-specific knowledge.
• On the other hand, you will subsequently supervise and lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive software solution that combines various technologies in the railway sector, is based on GIS, and will lead to a far-reaching optimisation of railway operations.
